[Editor’s note: This is part of a series of articles about app makers, highlighting talented team members who embody the builder mindset at ArcTouch, and how they find creative new ways to apply the latest technology to our projects.]
Back in early 2019, Bruna Lavelli was working as a telemarketer in Florianópolis, Brazil, looking for a career path with long-term growth. Around the same time, Mateus Baumart was looking for his own fresh start in tech.
Enter Daniel Bastos, an ArcTouch team member who shared an opening for the company's Starter Program in a couple of WhatsApp groups. Bruna saw it in one group; Mateus’s sister spotted it in another. Both applied, both were hired, and neither could have guessed that a job listing would ultimately build their entire future.
Though they crossed paths briefly during that first year, their real connection didn't spark until 2021, when both rejoined ArcTouch as full-time team members. Mateus — then in administration and now in IT Support — was tasked with preparing Bruna’s onboarding kit for her new role as a QA Analyst. He sent her a quick welcome-back message, which turned into coffee, which then led to a movie night watching The Lord of the Rings, and ultimately to a relationship.
Since then, the couple has gotten married and welcomed their son, Pedro Henrique — officially making him the first "ArcTouch Baby."
We sat down with Bruna and Mateus to chat about their day jobs, how their QA and IT mindsets apply to parenting, and what it’s like raising the first official member of the next ArcTouch generation.
Bruna: My job as a QA analyst is to guarantee the quality of our products. I test and perform what developers build, like apps, websites, and games. I also document the whole process so everything runs smoothly for users.
Mateus: My job in IT support is to make people’s lives easier. Sometimes that means fixing issues, setting up devices, or helping with access. Other times, it's managing logistics and risk assessments. In short, I try to remove blockers so people can do their best work.
Bruna: Bringing quality to every app and website, making them truly accessible and easy to use for everyone.
Mateus: IT support is surprisingly human. There’s a lot of tech involved, but at the end of the day, we’re helping people. A small fix can unblock someone’s entire afternoon. I also love that every day is a little different — I’m always learning something new.
Mateus: I’m always most proud when I can help things flow better behind the scenes. Recently, I started building an internal tool to manage our team’s hardware logistics — tracking equipment movements, shipments, and returns. It came from a very real daily operational need, and seeing it speed up our processes has been really rewarding.
Bruna: Working on the Burson project. I put a lot of effort into building out the QA documentation and test scenarios from scratch. Later, when other QAs and developers joined the team, they told me how much easier my documentation made their work. That was such a delightful compliment to hear.
Bruna: Not at all! The whole tech industry was completely new to me. I didn't know what to expect from the role or the company, so everything that followed was just a wonderful surprise, mainly because I met my future husband in this area.
Mateus: I was just focused on work, learning, and growing professionally. I never imagined it would be the place where I’d meet my wife and have a son. Looking back, it’s a little crazy — and very special — that a job opportunity became a central part of our family story.
Mateus: Everyone was incredibly supportive. Knowing Pedro was going to be the first "ArcTouch Baby" made it feel like the whole team was celebrating along with us.
Bruna: I first told my manager, Sabrina, and she was very excited for us. Then I shared it with my teammates on the Midtown project, and everyone was thrilled.
Bruna: We were actually surprised twice! The company sent an official welcome kit — my favorite item was a cute little teddy bear. And then our teammates put together a personal gift basket with Pedro’s very first contribution fund to help us get started. It helped us so much in those early days.
Mateus: It came at a time when our lives had just completely flipped, so receiving that support made us feel incredibly loved and cared for.
Bruna: It meant everything, both personally and professionally. ArcTouch offers extended maternity leave, which gave me invaluable extra time with Pedro during those first months.
When I returned, the team showed so much empathy as we adjusted to our new routine. Finding a daycare we trusted was tough, but the flexibility I was given allowed me to ease back into my role without feeling like I had to choose between being present for my son and doing my job well.
Bruna: Hah! We’re definitely still figuring it out! In QA, you learn to plan, prioritize, and pivot when things don't go as expected — and parenting requires a lot of that. You can have the perfect schedule, but babies don't always follow the "test plan." I’m constantly observing, learning, and making small adjustments to find what works best.
Mateus: Bruna is definitely the organized one! My IT background helps more with problem-solving and staying calm when things break or don't go as planned. I’m used to troubleshooting on the fly, and that mindset helps a lot when Pedro decides to mix things up.
Mateus: The baby monitor is an absolute lifesaver. Being able to check on Pedro without physically walking into the room and risking waking him up gives us total peace of mind.
Bruna: During pregnancy, I used the Pregnancy+ app every week to track Pedro’s development. Now, I actually use ChatGPT quite a bit for quick parenting checks and general ideas — though I always double-check medical stuff with our pediatrician!
Bruna: Our weekends look a little different, but in the best way. We’ve actually taken Pedro to a few outdoor music festivals and short trips already. He loves new sounds and seeing people. But we also just love quiet weekends at home reading books, playing, and making him laugh.
Mateus: Life is definitely much more family-focused now. Some of my absolute favorite moments are the simple ones at home, just playing on the floor with Pedro and watching him discover new things.
Mateus: A lovable workplace supports you as a whole person, not just as an employee. Becoming a parent changes your priorities and your routine. Having colleagues and leaders who celebrated this milestone with us and gave us space to adapt proved that culture is built through genuine care and everyday empathy.
Bruna: To me, a lovable workplace is one where people genuinely understand that life happens outside of work, and empathy is shown through actions, not just words. Having the flexibility to adapt to our new life made a huge difference for our family.
