“ArcTouch is constantly coming up with ideas, looking at data to back up the decisions that we make, and helping us figure it out. They identify critical gaps that we're trying to solve for and come up with creative solutions."
— Sof Sirajeddine, Senior Director of Digital Transformation, Magellan Health

Challenge

Magellan Health reached out to ArcTouch for help in improving the company’s Magellan Rx digital experience by building its first mobile app. Previously, the service was only available through a website with limited capabilities. Adding a modern app-based experience for iOS and Android would help Magellan offer a more complete prescription benefit solution to their customers and members.

A key product goal was to improve the information and resources available to consumers and give them the self-service tools to help make purchasing medication more transparent and convenient.

Creating mobile applications in healthcare also requires a high level of care regarding privacy and data security. The app needed to be HIPAA-compliant and completely secure. The company also wanted to ensure the app was accessible, to serve people with disabilities better.

Solution

From the very start of the project, ArcTouch designed the user experience to not only include today’s standard accessibility features — but also to optimize the user interface to deliver the best possible experience for all users.

Accessibility features include:

  • Font scaling throughout the app.
  • Simplified color scheme to provide contrast within the UI while also accounting for color-blindness.
  • Clear, simple UI copy, making navigation straightforward, especially for those using screen readers.

The ArcTouch engineering team used Flutter to efficiently deliver a high-quality, unified code-base across iOS and Android apps. With Flutter, we were able to use one multi-platform development team instead of separate iOS and Android dev teams — and reduced the time to market. And Flutter simplifies ongoing support and maintenance. We can manage the lifecycle of both iOS and Android versions using a single codebase, rather than working separately in the native tools.

For extra security and privacy, we integrated biometric authentication for both iOS (Touch ID and Face ID) and Android (fingerprint).

ROI

The app is on track to achieving the primary goal — to provide information transparency and the self-service tools members need to make informed decisions about their prescription drug and pharmacy benefits.

And our client is ecstatic about the work the ArcTouch team continues to do:

“ArcTouch team members immersed themselves early on in understanding the PBM industry, and the experience we want to deliver to our customers and members," said Sofiane Sirajeddine, Senior Director of Digital Transformation, Magellan Rx Management. "They are constantly coming up with ideas, looking at data to back up the decisions that we make, and helping us figure it out. They identify critical gaps that we're trying to solve for, and come up with creative solutions — constantly wanting to improve — and being flexible at any given time.”
