Homework for you and your team.

A robust Discovery Process helps reduce risk. It ensures the whole team will be working on the right thing with defined requirements and deadlines. Without a thoughtful approach, you run the risk of building a product that doesn’t truly meet the needs of your users or the business.

The ArcTouch Discovery Process is a great time to draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, talk to future users, develop new ideas, align on information architecture, visualize how these things might look and feel, and get some actual feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

The list below is a starting point. Think through anything you think would be helpful, considering all stakeholders. It’s okay if not all information is complete or formally structured; it’s better to have insightful incomplete work rather than waiting for perfection.

Logistics

A successful Discovery Workshop requires a bit of upfront planning to ensure the right people participate, roles and responsibilities are established, and everyone has a shared understanding of the success of the process.

Product

Outline the product-focused elements to ensure a shared understanding of the product's vision, user needs, and success metrics.

Research

Reviewing research during the Discovery Process roots the team in facts and data. Leverage existing research and insights, understanding of the target users, market landscape, and lessons learned from past experiences.

Design

Discuss and explore the design landscape, identifying key competitors and inspirational examples to inform the product's visual and functional direction. Review existing design assets and preliminary visual concepts to ensure a cohesive and effective design strategy.

Technology

Upfront technical discovery is critical to mitigate risks and establish a clear development path. Focus on the technical foundation of the product, detailing existing architecture, integrations, and essential guidelines to ensure a robust, secure, and scalable solution.
