At the recent Salesforce Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, Honeywell was awarded mobile “Best In Show” for their innovative Aerospace Business Aviation iPad app developed by ArcTouch. The mobile “Best In Show” session recognized the very best custom enterprise mobile apps that leverage the Salesforce platform, and ArcTouch is thrilled that our app is the best of the best.

Honeywell Aerospace Business Aviation iPad App

The Honeywell Aerospace Business Aviation iPad app helps Honeywell salespeople share information about their products with prospective customers. Previously Honeywell relied on printed sales materials in three ring binders, which were not a very effective way to find information, nor were very engaging with customers. In addition, the information changed frequently and needed regular costly reprints and curation to keep the binders up to date.

The new Aerospace Business Aviation iPad app that ArcTouch created for Honeywell allows salespeople to find the relevant product information faster, and puts a much richer engaging set of information – videos, brochures, images and presentations – right at the salesperson’s fingertips. Salespeople can now more effectively communicate the information about the products and make better use of their time and the customers’ time.

Enterprise Mobile Application Platform Integration With Salesforce

The mobile application ties directly into Honeywell’s Salesforce account and allows salespeople to capture customer information and product interests right on the device, and in real-time add this information directly into Salesforce for tracking and follow up. The app uses Salesforce login information for user authentication, and can create new customer leads or log information to existing contacts. Future plans include Chatter integration, so salespeople can leverage their internal enterprise social networks to help turn prospects into customers.

The app is also integrated into AppGlu, a mobile enterprise application management platform developed previously by ArcTouch. AppGlu allows the Honeywell sales and marketing managers to centrally update the app’s content and sync it to the apps in the field (so the salespeople always have the most current product information), send personalized messages to salespeople in the field and notify them when new products that are relevant to just their customers are available, and provide detailed analytics and business intelligence about which products are generating the most sales leads from the app.

Understand the human body like never before with the BodyMaps iPad app, a 3D visual learning tool for medical students, doctors and consumers, developed by ArcTouch in partnership with Healthline, Visible Productions and GE Healthymagination.

ArcTouch is developing a new field reporting app for the San Francisco Police Department. The app will make it easier and faster for officers in the field to create “incident” reports and deliver these reports to the SFPD Crime Data Warehouse in real-time. Our goal is to help officers spend more time doing police work, and less time doing paper work.

Touch And Talk, Not Type

ArcTouch’s designers and developers are working closely with the SFPD to create an app that streamlines report creation. The app will leverage mobile technologies such as GPS detection and integrated maps, speech to text dictation, image recognition, and integrated audio, photo and video recording, so all the key incident information is all in a single place. By using touch and speech interfaces, the app will reduce the need for typing, and allow officers to capture a much richer set of information, such as automatically tagging a photograph with the latitude, longitude and compass heading where it was taken.

ArcTouch was selected by sf.citi and the SFPD to help fulfill Police Chief Greg Suhr’s goal of fully utilizing technology to help modernize how crime data is captured, stored, searched and retrieved.  A press conference was held on Monday June 25th with San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Chief Suhr, and sf.citi founder Ron Conway to introduce the SFPD mobile field reporting app and the mobile initiative.

To make it simple, Suhr told reporters, this is, in fact, the Bat Computer.

The SFPD plans to field test the app with a group of new cadets within the next few months.

Apple’s new iPad (tech specs) offers exciting opportunities for your app: a 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution Retina display, an A5X chip with quad-core graphics, a 5 megapixel camera capable of recording 1080p HD video, and true 4G network connectivity.  These are big improvements when compared to the iPad 2.

There’s some simple things you can do in your app to take advantage of the new iPad right away. Let’s take a look at some.

Retina Display and 1080p HD Video

The new iPad’s Retina display has four times the resolution of the iPad 2. The 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi) is better than most desktop monitors currently on the market. To take advantage of this improved resolution, you’ll want to update your app to include high resolution image files. The process is similar to when the Retina display became available for the iPhone 4.

ArcTouch recommends that you do your user-interface (UI) design in Retina display size, and then scale down the assets to standard display when preparing them for production. Our app UI designers in San Francisco can help.

One thing to note about adding Retina images to your app, the larger image sizes may push your app over 50MB in size. If your app does go over 50MB in size, the iTunes App Store will only update the app when WiFi is available.  If WiFi-only installs and updates are an issue for you, then you will want to consider publishing a smaller app that downloads the Retina images in the background. ArcTouch can implement this for you.

The new iPad is now capable of playing 1080p HD video without any modifications to your code. Add 1080p versions of any video you serve onto your media server, and the new iPad can play it.

Engineers from Starfleet and United Federation of Planets have announced the immediate availability of the Starfleet PADD app for iPad devices.  After 45 years of continuous development and enhancement, most of which took place in a future timeline, the PADD, or Personal Access Display Device, has become a standard piece of equipment for all members of Starfleet. The PADD app is now available for Apple’s iPad.

An App Where No App Has Gone Before

The resulting app gives Starfleet personnel and regular civilians direct access to a universe of Star Trek information, including aliens, ships, places, technologies, and episode guide.  The app provides a rich, immersive LCARS interface, and includes recognizable sound signals and voice prompts, making it enjoyable to anyone.  The app also includes the latest terrestrial Star Trek news from Facebook and Twitter.

The app is available today for just under five bars of gold-pressed latinum ($4.99) via subspace radio from the iTunes App Store.
