Beam It! allows you to wirelessly send (or beam!) your contact information to another iPhone or iPod Touch.

Think back… way way WAY back (ok… not that far back)… think back to the days of the Newton and the Palm Pilot when you could beam your contact information to another device using the IR transmitter. Nothing fancy. No network to setup. No vCard to email. It was fast, easy and just worked. We loved the simplicity of this and really missed it in our iPhones. So ArcTouch developed Beam It! wireless contact sharing for the iPhone.

You can download and install Beam It! on your iPhone or iPod Touch through the iTunes App Store.

iPhone OS 3.0 Game Kit Peer To Peer Networking Over Bluetooth

Beam It! uses the automatic discovery and spontaneous peer to peer Bluetooth network connectivity of the new Game Kit framework found in iPhone OS 3.0 to find other iPhone or iPod Touch devices near you running Beam It! Find the device you want to “beam” to and then choose either your own contact information or any other contact from your Address Book. The card is instantly sent to the recipient and added to their Address Book. Easy as apple pie (yum!). For now, Beam It! is limited to beaming your contact info or any other contact info in your address book, but we’ve got plans to expand this to beam just about anything, much like the Palm Pilot and Newton could.

ArcTouch is providing the full Beam It! source code with free usage rights to members of the iPhone Developer Program so they can see how to use the new Game Kit peer to peer APIs in their own apps.

You can use any portion of the sample code in your own applications (even commercial apps) but:

You can’t redistribute the entire source code to anyone – you have to link back to us at http://arctouch.com/beamit
You can’t compile the entire source code and distribute an app like this (with contact beaming functionality) in the App Store under a different name
If you use any of our code in your app we’d appreciate a mention somewhere on your site or in the application credits area (not really required, but good karma!) – something like “includes peer-to-peer networking code from Beam It! by ArcTouch – http://arctouch.com/beamit”
